Spring is springing all over the place here in the Southern Hemisphere.
There’s a green fuzz around all the trees and a delicious scent of jasmine and blossoms in the air. The mornings and evenings are crisp and fresh and the days are balmy and cheerful. The birds are returning from their summer in Europe and we hear them singing with joy to be back home. People are looking up and making eye-contact and smiling at each other again.
Even though there are warnings of drought and the economy is bad and the politics are worse, one can’t help but feel a sense of optimism and enthusiasm.
I feel inspiration popping like the poppies in my garden; colourful and abundant and more than a little unruly. I am full of ideas about what I would like to be doing in the coming months.
See this.
Go there.
Read those.
Write that.
Offer these…
I know from experience that, unless I rein myself in and plan how I would like to do all these things, by when and with whom, I am going to run out of steam and end up achieving very few of my bright and exciting plans. Without a clear framework of what, why, how, and when I tend to run amuck; trying to do everything all at once and not managing to do anything very well (or at all).
And I spend too much of my increasingly precious energy on activities that do not guarantee a good enough return on my investment – leaving me exhausted, overwhelmed and knocking on the door to burnout again.
Which is why I love to offer a coaching workshop every Spring. Each year has a slightly different theme and this year it is all about being intentional about setting and achieving goals that feed you rather than starve you. The workshop aims to help you to harness all the energy and enthusiasm you are hopefully feeling at this joyous time of year, and turn that excitement into concrete, sustainable plans. I’ll give you some tools and concepts to ensure that the goals you set are the ones you really, truly want to achieve, and a framework for understanding and managing your energy responsibly and wisely along the way.
Join me on 21 September and together we will Plan to Spend Your Energy Wisely to Avoid Burnout. (Yes, it is a weekday, and yes, you are worth it. The venue is set in gorgeous gardens. The food is nutritious and beyond delicious. The whole day is designed to nurture you.)
This is the time of year that gardeners feed, plant and prune for new and abundant growth in their gardens – and it is the time of year that we should be feeding, planting and pruning for new growth in our lives.
In my own garden, I am pruning my new book (my lovely editor is currently cutting out all the dead wood and tidying up the edges) and readying it for its launch into the world early next year. I am sowing the seeds of new growth by test-driving my model of addressing psychological unsafety in the workplace (let me know if you’d like to be involved or want to learn more).
And I am planning some travel to new places where I will be seeing new things and having new experiences.
How are you preparing yourself for the new season? I’d love to hear what ideas and plans you have.
Wherever you are, and whatever season you are going into, I hope you enjoy it and are able to make the most of it!
Love,
Judy
